Climate change, i.e. global warming with increased CO2 emissions, the release of methane, the burning of fossil fuels, wars on resources and much more have now arrived in politics and public debate after more than 30 years of warnings. At the same time, climate change goes hand in hand with other forms of society changes: the further polarisation of rich and poor, digitalisation and changes in the world of work, (climate) migration, uncertain price developments, a fragile financial system and more. Nevertheless, the dramatic nature of the transformations does not seem to have reached the society at a large scale. This also affects adults who are considered non-privileged (see target groups). There is often a lack of basic understanding of what characterises climate change. In many cases, it is perceived as a “middle-class issue” that does not affect the individual. Moreover, in uncertain times, social issues are often given priority. Nevertheless, the effects of climate change gain influence on all citizens. And solving the problems through a transformation to an ecosocial economy will depend on how well this process can be made inclusive and democratic. With the European green Deal, the European Commission has given increased attention to climate protection policy. The project aims to contribute to anchoring this priority in society.
The consortium aims to
- actively INCLUDE learners with fewer opportunities in transnational European exchanges on the issue of climate change
- RAISE AWARENESS of climate change, especially among the target groups, and encourage an understanding of its scientific, social and political dimensions
- EMPOWER learners through creative and participatory approaches to discover aspects of climate change in the community (locally, in transnational meetings) and to develop “green skills”,
- FOSTER digital competences
- PROMOTE thinking in a European dimension, active citizenship, intercultural learning and overcoming stereotypes as well as prejudices.
