Sports and Art Against Violence
On April 27th we conducted a school-wide event titled “Sports and Art Against Violence” at 135th school “John Amos Comenius”. 185 students in grades 1st through 4th were divided in two groups: outdoor activities and indoor activities. The students in the school yard participated in activities based on the Movement, Games and Sport (MGS) method for social skills development of children under the age of 14. The games focused on teamwork, creative thinking, observation, cooperation, precision, and building of trust and responsibility. As we defined and discussed friendship and violence, the children participated with much excitement and enthusiasm. Five 8th graders trained during our yMIND project assisted our trainers and the younger students in discussions on violence and non-violence.
